Up Up Up Spreading Wide (2019) by Senga Nengudi is a new site-specific installation for Art Basel Unlimited. Curated by Gianni Jetzer, Unlimited is an exhibition platform for dynamic large-scale works that transcend the limits of the classic fair booth. Nengudi’s work can be seen at Booth U57, organized in collaboration with Sprüth Magers and Thomas Erben Gallery.

Up Up Up Spreading Wide is a nod/acknowledgment of the first Africans brought to American for the worst working vacation ever. Using mostly base materials of sand, colored pigments, discarded objects, and masking tape, a timeline of sorts is made marking 400 years of standing tall and keeping our cool, while foot nailed to the ground, as we spread wide our wings of excellence and generous contributions to the world stage. – Senga Nengudi
